tranny question

    would the tranny from an 88 1500, 5.7 350 bolt up to a 92 3500, 454. they are both automatic and 4wd

    The bolt pattern is the same, but the question is what transmission do yo have now?
    Is it a 3 or 4 speed auto, and if it is a 4 speed, and it is a 4L80E? The reason is that a 4L80E is a more computer controlled trans than a 700-R4 that is in an 88' truck.
    The best thing is find the same one that you have it will be better in the long run.
    Also, if you can take a photo of the "service identification" sticker with the RPO codes from your truck , then we can see exactly what you have and answer the question better.

    no, the 92 will be a 4L80E, which wasnt offered until 1991, so no chance of it being in the 88.

    the 700R4 that will be in the 88 has a 27 spline output shaft, where the 80E has a 32 spline, so it wont even mate to your transfer case.
