tow/haul do you plow with it on ?

    Now that i have the 4l80e should i plow with tow/haul on or off ???

    I don'[t think it will make much of a difference.I think it just changes some of the shift points.I don't believe it changes line pressure or anything.It won't hurt to have it on.Try it both ways and see which one works better.

    I was told to plow with it off. The tow/haul mode is just for what it says. You can feel the effect of having tow/haul on when you have a heavy load in the back of your truck or a trailer on the truck. My salesman told me that the truck senses the load on the back of the truck and shifts the trans accordingly. the weight on the front will not have an effect on the tow/haul operation. I uaually drive in 3 instead of OD because the truck will down shift too much going up hills, etc., and I plow in 4 HI in 1st gear.

    Heck yea...I use tow haul mode when plowing. It seems
    to keep the trans. in first on a long push and its easier
    than shifting it to low from reverse too. Give it a try !

    I use Tow mode every time I plow. Keeps the engine reved up longer on long runs, before shifting. Should help keep the batteries charged better, I would think. Sure can't hurt anything.

    EARTH....Watch out mister...The way you tore up all
    those Allison trannies....Hope ya get better luck
    outta the L480E....Hope we get more snow so you
    can test it out. But take heart ...I read on a lot of
    other GM forums with others have Allie problems in
    their tow rigs and such !

    BTW: the 6.0 combo will get ya better gas mileage too.
    Especially now with gas pushing 2.00 a gallon. You
    had a 8.1 right ? Notice any power difference ?

    sonjaab---- they only replaced 1 tranny and worked on the other one 6 times. From just driving the new truck around with the plow on and moving it and such i truely beleive the problems were with the truck (computer or something eletrical) and not the tranny. The plow seems twice as fast on the 03' then it did on the 02'.

    Gas milage average is 10.5 on the 6.0L about the same i got with the 8.1L

    I put on 700 miles since i picked it up and last nite i got on it a little bit. I did notice the 6.0 while moving $hits and gets better than the 8.1 did, but on the other hand the 8.1 took off out of the hole alot better.

    EARTH...I noticed the difference between my 97
    350 and 01 6.0. The 6.0 was a DOG outta the
    hole when new till about 9k miles compared to
    my 350 which would BURN off the tires and
    squeek em' 1st to 2nd shift at WOT !
    Now at 16k miles it finally does a burn out !
    Gas mileage new on my 01 was about 10 mpg.....
    now 8-10 towing, plowing.....12-14 city.....
    18 highway. My 97 got OVER 20 hiway......
