Has anyone out there ever heard of using water softner pellets instead of rock salt to melt ice ,someone told me the only difference between rock salt and water softner pellets is about one degree temperature wise less of rock salt ?. I also was told it's a lot cheaper than buying rock salt per skid?

I know some people use it, but the biggest problem is the pellets are round and in a way poetentially make it another hazard for slip/fall lawsuits... pretty sure someone brough this topic up the other day
