My 1997 chevy tailgate opens but the two posts don't slide back out to the sides, tried lube but seems to be in the handle-I have to depress the posts and let them pop out. I don't see how to get at the tailgate insides -any ideas

you need to remove the three torx style fasteners from the back side of the gate, think its a t-30 or so, and the handle should come loose. then there should be 2 rods running out to the latches, unhook the clips and pull the handle out. i think there are 2 "ears" on the handle that bend over time. try to bend them back or you may need to replace the handle.

    hope this helps
