    Who runs which?

Are tailgate spreaders in the 400-1000lb capacity range only good for residential routes? How many of you plow parking lots or roadways with tailgate spreaders? IF you use 1-4cu yard pickup bed spreaders or with seperate gas engines, when or why did you feel the need finally to use this compared to the cheaper tailgate options? Reload time?

This has been a big topic for years. Its like having the right tool for the job many tools will work but the right one makes it less work. Many people don't like to reload all the time, bagged chemicals cost more, storage and loading of supplies take other equipment. If you only use one type chemical than bulk is the way to go for most profit and ease of loading. If you change chemical's all the time than bulk is out. We have many type accounts from small lots to large shopping malls and many hotels most are hard to reach parking thats why we use tailgate snow ex 575 but we also have larger size for the bigger lots. Also we have storage lockers throughout the routes so drivers are able to either use on site supplies or on board supplies. On board supplies are last resort when we start to run low but by that time I send some of the hand crews to get a box truck and run to the warehouse and pick up 8-10 tons of new chemicals for restock. On most of our lots customers ask for CaCl2 on sidewalks and NaCl on roadways and parking. We can jump on these with the small rigs and change on the fly. Also some ask for CaCl2 on the whole lot and sidewalks (love them) So for us its the flexibility of change the tailgate spreader brings and storage during the off season. Every spreader work its just how much work do you want to do. If your paid by the hour as we are the longer the better..
