Currently I have a Fisher 1000 hitch mounted spreader with the basic controller (On/Off). I would like to upgrade to a controller with variable speed control for better throw distance control. My question is could I use a "Salt Dog" controller and wiring with my current spreader? My assumption is yes as the function of the controller is to supply a varying voltage to the spreader motor.

Or has anyone modified a single speed controller?

I am sure the controller would work. You may need to change the plug if they dont match up
  4. Yes it can work, as long as wired properly. In one of my trucks there is a Buyers box going to a Meyer spreader.
