Can I just spread the salt and sand by hand until I make enough money to buy a spreader? (Obviously I will use a shovel)

Right now I have only two 16 unit apartment buildings that need salted and sanded.

The rest of the customers are not asking for it, so I can not justify the expense yet.

Sure you can salt by hand. If you have a wheeled, plastic fertilizer broadcast spreader you may want to use that to save some time and your back. If you are using a shovel the area must be small anyway. Goodluck.

Why don't you solicit your all customers for salt service???? You might drum up enough business to justify a small tailgate spreader.

    plastic spreaders

use the ones with the air tires, not the cheap plastic ones. you can buy the agri-fab brands for around 125 dollars. i ran about 2000 lbs through one last night.
