    Looking at possibly adding another spreader for next season, and wanted to know what the differences are between the sp8500 & 8550 models? Also how much of a price difference is there? Looking at the specs on snowex site they appeared to be the same:confused: Thanks.

    Just doing the math, I would say the difference is 50 :salute:

    This is just off a faint recall... The 50 models dont have the screen and tarp kit... The price isnt all that different but they're the same unit just less a few small features...

    Thanks!:jester::rolleyes:

    This is what I'm curious about? When you go to the snowex site, the spec listing shows the same elec motors, dimension, etc.......So what exactly makes the 50 a "High Output"? I dont see how it can be any more "high output" than the 8500 model when they both have the same motors, spinners, & auger assemblies?

    The 8550 and 8500 both have inverted v and top screen, like was said the specs look the same. Only thing I see different is the spreading material for the 8550 says 100% coarse sand,8500 says salt, 50/50 mix ect

    The V-Maxx 8550 is designed for spreading only sand, and it comes with a new High Output transmission, which has a 40:1 gear ratio. This allows the 8550 to spread 295 to 680 pounds of material per minute (which is approximately three times higher output than the 8500). That is the main difference between the 8500 and 8550. Thanks for your question!

    Thank you.

    But with the 8550 having a "faster" feed rate/higher gearing, do you loose some of your torque at the auger? Essentially its the same motors, just different gearing? Correct?

    I'm pretty sure I know the answer....and if it's so, I would prefer the 8500 model.

    You'd be better off strapping 4 or 5 torpedo heaters to the back of the truck and dragging them around the lot.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................edit: with a kubota tractor

    The V-Maxx 8550 has plenty of torque for the High Output transmission. In fact, it has the same motor/transmission setup as our larger V-Maxx 9500, which has worked well for many years.

    The V-Maxx 8550 spreads 3.6 to 8.3 cubic feet per minute.

    Well, I ended up finding a nice used (2yr old) 8500, and figured I would post a pic for your enjoyment. Also I'd like to thank everyone for their input...especially 2cor & Matson.
