I am new to this site, and have learned much just browsing the threads.I have been plowing to subsidize my income for the last 20 years.I have been doing mainly driveways but also some light commercial. My papermill job of 14 years has been sold overseas. Now I find myself robbing my little retirement fund to create employment for myself.I have a ton of questions that I would love opinions on. I am considering buying a single axle diesel dump with a 10-12' plow and sander for plowing larger commercial lots.Any thoughts or advice? Do many/any of you folks use wheel loaders for snow removal? If so,what are the pluses and minuses? I see many v-blade plows, but have never plowed with one.Are they that much better than a straight blade? What are the drawbacks?Any and all opinions/advice will be greatly appreciated.Pray for snow!!
PSDF350..Thanks for the reply. The Blizzard is sure a nice looking plow. How would you compare it to a Boss v? I have a k2500 chev.with a 7.5 fisher..The only reason I am considering a dump rather than a one ton,is that I have an Elgin Pelican street sweeper. If I had the dump I could also use it in the spring/summer to pull my sweeper around.Do you have to worry about breaking the wings on the blizzard? A couple of things I have always liked about the old fishers(like I have) is that they have a higher throw than the old westerns I have had,and I like that the cutting edge trips rather than the whole blade. How do the blizzards compare in price to the boss v? Thanks again.
well northernsweeper the blizzards are more $ but they are built tough. haven't plowed with mine yet but there are lots who have that rave about them. also boss is the parent company. as for the wings yes they can and have been broke but from what i understand not that easily. if they do you still have the rest of the plow to use. i think the 8611 would go nice on your dump and remember you will be able to get more done quicker. the wings work independently so you can windrow allmost the full width of blade. cant wait till snow to try mine out. do a search on this site and on the web for blizzard i think you'll find some good info. good luck in your endevors.
