I have an old monarch pump in a jeep and I am rewiring the solenoing from the pump to under the hood.

Now my question is when the solenoid was on the pump the third and smallest attachment had a piece of metal hanging off. When I pulled the lever to put the blade up the lever touched the metal and the pump cycled.

Now what is the function of the center attachment on the solenoid? I am assuming it is a ground because no power was going through the lever.

    Am I right?

Any help asap would be great
