i have a snoway 24 series with a fenner pump. wen i raise it up it spews fluid out of the back of the fitting housing on the up and down ram. its not a hose or the fitting its the square housing on top or the ram that the hose fits into. is this a sort of pressure release?

No, not a pressure relief. Have you checked the o-ring on the hose? If it's not the O-ring and the hose is in good shape then it would have to be the lift cylinder itself.
