I just ordered a sp575 and accoding to snow ex website, it says I need a gate flow kit in order to spread pellitized ice melt. Is this true? Owners or previous owners only please. Thanks in advance.

No. Thats more for salt that is sand particle size.

The auger goes up into the hopper, so it stops 99.9% of all the salt.

    I use the SnowEx line

The gate will help control smaller pellet products. For regular rock salt you don't need it. If you want to spread something smaller like magnesium or calcium, etc it will certainly help regulate material flow.

Do you have to have it? NO. Will it help? Yes.

It's not wrong or right, it's what will work best for you?

I have a couple 575's and 1- 325. I never load them till I get the lot plowed and am ready to salt. I have found in the past I always loose product, so in turn I am trhowing money away. Plus this way I know exactly how much product I use on each lot. I run the spreader empty before I move to the next lot.

Different experience here, with no vibrator I could NOT use these products, they would clog on me big time. Anything pelletized it works great for however.

I have had several SnowEx 575's and 1075's. Best thing I ever did was to install Karrier vibrators on them, ended all my problems plus go can get 100% of the salt out prior to rinsing it out. Great investment. As far as the spreader, they work great, the controllers do not last. The frames should be sprayed with line-x or rhino liner when they are new, otherwise the mild steel that they use will be toast in 4-6 years. If you spray them they will last almost forever.
