The Snow and Ice Management Association (SIMA) has announced the dates and locations for 2 Regional Training Workshops focusing on Bid Building in the snow and ice industry. The first full-day session will take place on Thursday, July 31, 2008 near O’Hare Airport in Chicago, IL, and the second will take place on Friday, August 8, 2008 in Hartford, CT.

The newly created Bid Building program is designed to present a comprehensive approach to developing strong bidding practices. The program will be run by a team of 3 snow and ice professionals who have a solid understanding of how bidding works in the industry. These specialists will present the basic foundations of a bid in the morning session, entitled “The Four Building Blocks of a Bid,” which will focus on financials, production numbers and measuring, event specifics and historical data, and customers. The afternoon will then consist of a hands-on workshop focusing on measuring and breaking the bidding process down into manageable parts.

The summer workshop Bid Building Specialists are as follows: Mike Mason out of Louisville, KY, Rich Arlington III, CSP out of Erie, PA, Bob Smart, CSP out of Olmsted Falls, OH, and Phil Harwood, CSP out of Farmington, MI. Each of the specialists are knowledgeable about the aspects of bid building, and will act as facilitators for the sessions, answering questions and providing real-life insight into bidding.

The Build a Bid workshops will help attendees:
    • Understand job costing and production numbers for equipment.
    • Use historical weather data to create more accurate bids.
    • Factor financial goals and long-term planning into your strategic bidding process.
    • Learn better ways of presenting and closing the bid.
    • Establish a knowledge base for determining workload capacity for your company.

For more information, or to sign up for either of the Bid Building sessions, call 414-375-1940, email Brian@sima.org, or visit www.sima.org.
