How many of you have scanners in your plow trucks? I have a uniden hand held unit with a external antenna. I like to listen to the town higway department (can very comicical during a big snow storm), fire dispatch, and the police dispatch.

It is legal to listen to a scanner here in NH. I find it very useful as to where the highway department is plowing

    Illegal in NY

Doen't even matter if the police freq. are blocked out. If the unit is capable of recieving those freq. it is illegal. The Fire fighters can't even run them without a permit.
Back to the original question. When I was plowing I had one. They are great entertainment! Just don't get caught. They take it very serious!

It's legal in all states if you have an amateur radio license.. :D

I have a scanner, vhf/hf amateur radio, CB, and am/fm cassette in my rig. Speakers all over so I can figure out which one is talkin..

Another ham radio operator here - Kilowatt zero CKH

I run with VHF/UHF and HF radios - full coverage. I don't currently have any trunk trackers installed though.

I have a handheld scanner in my truck, but most of the time I just let my pager run and put it on the dispatch channel. I'm a firefighter so use is legal. No police freq's though, just the main fire dispatch and fire operations channels..

If it was illegal to carry a scanner in a vehicle, I would certainly be the first to know since I know a bunch of police officers.

I can't speak for other states, but in Michigan it is illegal even if you are not using it. I have even heard of officers confiscating them.
