Salt needs to 400x200 open parking lot

    Doing some rough estimating for salt usuage on a 400x200 parking lot wide open brand new blacktop.

    I am assuming 50k sq ft per 150lbs of #1 Rock salt.

    5 50lb bags? Sound right?

    10-15lbs per 1,000sq ft is the general rule of thumb, so about 800-1200lbs should do.

    Actually, 15# per M is very light. If you want to be effective, count on 20# - and that is based on regular temps of high twenties, low thirties. And remember, it is ALWAYS better to go a little heavy, and know you got the job done, then not. Also, don't forget a factor in in there for touch up of hot spots.
