I am looking to buy a chevy truck with the plow prep package installed.
How can I tell if it has it installed? what markings?

On the inside of the glovebox door is an option label. VYU is the "plow prep package." This only really applies to newer (2000 or so) Chevy/GMC trucks and has not always been available on all models.

I would not be so sure about that. They had that code availible on 99 and older OBS GM 1/2 ton trucks.

correct...VYU has been the code for plow prep since the inception of the last gen truck in '88.

components and pricing were dependent on the other build codes for that particular truck.

    VYU most often included:
    heavy torsion bars
    HD shocks/F44 suspension
    HO alternator
    skid plates
    firewall pass-thru
