I want to check my hydralic fluid and it says to "fully retract the lift rod" to check it. What is that? Does that mean to lift the blade to the highest height? Thanks.

It means to completely lower lift arm. Put controller into the float position and then push down on the lift arm until ram is all the way down... :)

You want the plow in the down position. The piston that lifts the plow needs to be all the way down for you to check your fluid level.
