He didn't chain the tailgate when he dumped (was like it sitting now, then raised it) and it was crushed by the hitch. I can't seem to figure out how people can do that. 8 out of 10 dump trucks I see like this have the dent in the tailgate from people doing that, but this is the worst one i'v ever seen. Most people can tell somethings wrong when you hear metal making sounds it shouldn't make. So thats a nice 1,500 dollar mistake he made. New tailgate with a coal chute is coming tomorrow

I see exactly what happened. Why should you have to remove a drawbar to dump? You'd think they would have designed or layed that out with a little more thought.

Dont feel to bad, that is a very common thing to happen. I see that on a lot of newer dump trucks..

Same thing happened to our first F-550. It snapped the hitch and bent the plate the hitch attached too.

    It really sucks!!!

    streetsurfin,

If you have a load of brush for example it will get caught in the tailgate if you do not remove the tailgate.

Many people cut out a "V" or "U" shape so the gate clears the hitch.

Very nice, Duramax? Some body companis will put brackets on each side of the hitch to guard the gate...unless they get crushed in by "operating engineers".
