Are the newer style vehicle mounts like the Western UltraMount vehicle mounts, where you can remove the receiver brackets during the off season?

Yes, the "mount adapter" is removable without tools. Removing it will leave you with the same pcs that the UltraMount leaves when you remove the receiver brackets.

Oh ok, that's what it looked like in their installation guide.

Are the DD units really that bad? I had a 2004 810 and while it was a decent plow, it did have some of the common issues like ice building up in the slideboxes, powdercoat finish rusting and flaking off after a year, electrical connectors that would work themselves loose, etc.. Just curious if the newer units are any better or worse.

Your 2004 would have been a good model year 810 to have. Don't see many problems with them. PowerHitch2 plows have been very good for us aside from a couple minor things. Kept a 2009 86110LP until this year and had next to zero problems. Powdercoat is definately better ... still not a Boss finish but hey ... it's a white plow. Electrical connections have had no issues. That plug has been on Westerns for a long time. DD really got the bad rap for 06-08 year plows ... the brand is still recovering from that debacle. I think the Power Plow is still the most productive plow on the market.
