Wondering if I need to get a new alternator...97 Ford Superduty F-450 with a 215 amp alternator, the battery light on the dash is always on, it is charging fine, just the light is on. Any ideas???

Check the voltage at the battery terminals should be 13.5-14.5 if the alternator is good. (With the engine running) You might have a bad cell in battery. Take it out and to a battery shop have them check it on a carbon pile load tester. If it comes up short replace it and the alternator. Reason on alternator is current units with internal voltage regulators are not built that well, if the battery puts excessive load on alt. it almost always fails shortly after replacing battery. You could also do a seach on the ford truck forum as to this subject.
