Only when in 4 high or low. When I turn the steering wheel all or near all the way in either direction I get a sound like gears trying to mesh but not quite making it. Do not have oversize tire so thats not it.

    88 Heavy Half Ton.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If it only happens while turning my guess would be a cv axle.

Thanks for both replies. Is that something I can fix/replace myself ???

Would I be doing any additional harm if I wait till warm weather to fix ???

    Thanks Again !!!

You will need an impact driver to get the Axel nut off and will probably have to take the bottom shock bolt out too. Its not a hard job at all once you have done it. But if you have no air tools i say piss on it take it to the shop they charge about little over a 100 bucks here to do.

Yup, cv axle joint is bad. Shouldn't be too hard of a job.

    Just to complete the thread.

CV joint on drivers side was bad.

Did not do it myself. Local auto/truck repair, $95 per side labor plus $65 for each set (CV joint and half shaft). Replaced both. There is a $100 core charge for each set that is returned when you bring yours back.

Sound's OK now. Plowed today and no grinding !!!!!!!

Thanks again for the help !!
