The plow is a MDII. The controller is the slightly rectangular touch pad with rounded corners. Is it normal for the overload switch to illuminate when the plow is not connected? I also have an older square touch pad and the overload does not illuminate under the same circumstances. Don't know if it is a "feature" of the new controller, or a sign of a failure to come.

That is normal with the new controllers, it senses the "no load" (same as if the solenoid wire is broken) and turns on the overload.
