Liquid De-Icers & Sand

    does anybody know how effective pre-treating sand with liquid de-icers is.

    I do both. Not sure what you want to know, but the answer to your question - "very". There are a couple of major differences in treating salt vs sand, though. The salt itself provides more melting action. The salt will "disappear" through dilution whereas the sand will remain on the surface.

    A lot depends on the nature of what you're using as a pre-treatment.

    If you treat your sand as it comes out of the truck with a liquid de icer you will find that more of the product will adhere to the road surface vice going into the ditch. Also most sand once applied to a road surface or parking lot actually has a limited effectiveness depending on road surfaces and traffice flow.
