knocking sounds

    i bought a 1978 chevy k10 about 4 months ago with a 400 small block and unknown miles the truck runs great!but for about three weeks now ive heard mild knocking,pinging sounds during idle and i cannot locate were the sounds are coming from.since this is my first truck i dont have much experiance i just know the basics!

    you can take a long screwdriver or pry-bar and use it as a stethoscope, just put it on the valve cover, oil pan, etc.., and hold it up to your ear.

    Just for the hell of it check the oil level and look to see if the oil is clean or dirty.
