    1986 1 ton dually..
wouldnt engage the starter motor..neutral switch is jumped.
i pulled the switch on the steering column (not the key)

now i think the rod that actuates the switch has come out
of where ever it goes..but pulling the tilt wheel assembly
has me stopped.. i can turn the key, but the rod dosnt seem
to be doing all it should.

chevy dealer cant get me in for 2 weeks..i use this truck to make
    my living..
my question is how can i trouble shoot this rod?

It's not that much more work to tear the colum down to repair that versus replaceing the colum with another (used one, mind you that could also break at any point) and THEN have to change the ignition cylinder so your key works.

You're talking 1986, and you're Still seeing the dealer about repairs?? Talk about loyalty.

    i yanked a column out of a 87/88 3/4 ton truck today..wasnt too bad.
the dealer here has a doOd that put a v8 into a s10, so i have him do my ****** work..he's done some good work on my s-10..

the column i have to replace the original isnt a tilt..so it may last a bit..and it cam with the ignition key...sweet.

Don't toss the tilt column, repair it once it is loose and sell it on eBay--its worth a few bucks.
