I was looking at a new 2011, I assume the 2012 is much the same,
It was listed as 6.0 vortech V8, not sure about the other designation.

I'd love to buy one with a 6 liter in a 1/2 ton model, to bad you can't find one anywhere, except in the denali model, no way am I spending 50k on a 1/2 ton truck,

my new 2011 sierra has 3000kms on it now Vary good power, more then my 01 had... 6 speed works well with it... I'm getting 700kms per tank at quarter tank probably get abit more if you drive it nicely meaning the speed limit.

good motor I have had 3 of them. You will get around 13-14 mpg driving around. I am switching all my trucks over to diesel one year at a time. Only have more more gas truck left and that is a 2009 GMC2500 with the 6.0 and it is what it is. Never had any problems with it but burns a bunch of gas if you load it up towing and you work the motor but if does the job. Never thought I would pay $8000 more of a diesel but I got talking into it with one and now I will never go back to gas.

If you can't find the older Vortec Max 6.0 1500, there is always the newer one with the 6.2 :D

Have to agree the 6.o is a gas hog. I had an 1988 and 1989 2500HD 350,s that got better gas mileage then this 04 does I have now. If I am real easy on the gas I am lucky to pull 12 mpg on hwy and 9 city.

11's and 12's must get better mileage than the older ones?
I realize a 3/4 ton truck is not an economy car but 12mpg?!?!

my 2011 6.0 gas extended gets 13.7 mpg combined which is about 80 % highway use at 75 mph ... 6 speed with 410's ... no issues .... 13,000 miles so far ... pushes snow just fine with a fisher 9'

my old 04 got worse mileage as it got older
