Anyone know where to get a HO alt for 86 chevy. Only one i can find is at advanced auto (140 amp for $200) and they dont know if thats 140 amp at idle or what. Local shop will build one for $125 (110 amp @1000 rpm). Would like around 200amp.

How many batteries are you running? I've got a 145 amp alt. in my truck with two BIG batteries. One guy I plow with has the same plus a third battery in the bed. We both have diesels, but we don't have any problems powering our plows.

The alternators from Advance are rated at max output, or atleast the one I bought was (160amps at 3000 rpms) . Its most likely 140 amps at "highway speed" ie. 3000 rpms.
