    Urgent - Winter Weather Message
    National Weather Service Upton Ny
    1231 Pm Est Tue Jan 11 2005

...wintry Weather Closing In On The Tri-state Area...

.arctic High Pressure Over Eastern Canada And New England Will Build
Eastward Through The Overnight Hours. At The Same Time...a Growing
Area Of Moisture Associated With A Warm Front And Low Pressure
Wave...will Be Moving East Across The Ohio Valley And Spreading East
Across Our Local Region. The Warmer Air South Of The Warm Front Will
Overrun The Cold Air At The Surface. This Will Result
In Snow Developing Across The Area From Southwest To Northeast
This Afternoon And Into Early This Evening. Later Tonight...
The Warm Air Will Become Thick Enough To Start A Change Over To Sleet
And Eventual Rain. This Process Will Begin In The Southwest Sections
First And Then Spread Northeast. The Snow And Sleet Will Hold On
Longest Across The Most Northern Suburbs. Here...the Most
Accumulations Are Expected. Rain Will Be The Predominant
Precipitation Type From The Metro Areas Of New Jersey And New York
Around Midnight. This Change Over Will Then Spread Slowly Northeast.

Stay Tuned To Noaa All Hazards Radio Or Visit Our Web Site At
    Weather.gov/okx For Further Details.

The Mentioned Advisory Is Issued When Snow And Or Ice Is Forecast To
Develop In The Affected Areas...but Accumulations Are Expected To Be
Light. Any Snow Or Ice Would Make Driving And Walking Difficult But
Not Impossible On Untreated Roadways And Sidewalks. When Temperatures
Are Below Freezing...motorists Need To Be Especially Careful On
Bridges And Overpasses Where Slippery Spots Can Easily Develop.

...winter Weather Advisory Through Early Wednesday Morning...

Light Snow Will Spread Across The Area This Afternoon. The Snow Will
Be Spotty At First...but A Steadier Snow Will Develop By Mid To Late
Afternoon. The Snow May Mix With Sleet At Times. Snowfall
Accumulations By The End Of The Evening Commute Are Expected To Be
    Around An Inch.

The Snow Will Continue This Evening...again...possibly Mixed With
Sleet...before Changing To Mainly All Rain. In Addition...some
Pockets Of Freezing Rain May Also Occur. Total Accumulations Are
Expected To Be 2 To 3 Inches By Wednesday Morning.
