I just picked up a 2 yd Henderson spreader. It's a stainless steel model but it's painted. Is there a reason it was originally painted? My whole reason for going with stainless was to avoid paint maintenance. Can I strip it down and it'll be okay?
    Any help is appreciated.

409SS was painted. Is the lowest grade of SS. Seams are welded with mild steel. May use some mild steel components. 409SS will tarnish if not painted. Use to sell a whole bunch of them before 201 & 304 came on the market. In fact a magnet will stick to 409SS. Outstanding spreaders still! Have sold them since 83.

Thank you for the reply. That's exactly the info I was looking for. So far it's an excellent sander, thanks again
