where is the cable broken? if it broke right at the lever you might be able to get a pair of pliers and pull on it. usually its not that lucky to break where you can get at it. can you see hte cable through the grill?

You can put your hand up under the bumper between the grill and the radiator and release it manually. Might need a screw driver or pliers to help.

You can't reach it from under the grill on 81 and up. I use wood wedges and tap them in between the core support and the hood. Once you get it separated some you can usually slide a thin screw driver in and pop the release.

1/4" flat stock between the rad support and the hooid, pry up gently to spring the hood, then pull the bolts out of the latch with a 13mm (IIRC) socket. when you're done, readjust the hood side of the latch with a rubber mallet.
