I have a western unimount plow. For hard packed snow and ice,is it better to have blade drop speed faster to break through,or is this hard on pump.Would this cause more metal shavings to clog up valves? Please help.

I think you are asking if you are working with hard packed snow should you slow down the operation of the pump. That answer would be no. Just drop the blade and put the truck in 4-LO and angle the blade in the appropriate direction. Drive slower than normal to help the cutting edge grab better.

The only reason to slow down the operation of the pump is if the blade is hitting the ground too hard and fast. or if the blade comes up so fast that it puts too much strain on the pump.
