ANDOVER, Mass. — The CEO of a large employee benefits brokerage firm who is also a board member for The Lawrence Boys & Girls Club has been charged with pulling a gun on a snowplow truck driver.

Michael McCullom, 51, pulled a 9-mm gun during a fistfight with a plow truck driver Tuesday morning in a parking lot.

McCullom is the CEO, president and founder of Custom Benefits Group, an employee benefit brokerage firm providing marketing for services including medical, dental, life and disability insurance and 401K plans, according to its website.

The fight happened after the two drivers nearly collided in traffic and blamed each other, according to the police report. McCullom was turning left and the plow driver, identified by police as Paul Connelly, was turning right, according to police.

McCullom followed the plow driver to a parking lot, where the altercation took place and McCullom pulled out a gun, the police report said.

Police charged McCullom with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery “because he used a dangerous weapon during an altercation and because of the fact that McCullom initiated the altercation by following Connelly into the parking lot to yell at him when he could have fled the scene,” the report reads.

McCullom is being held without bail.

“After hearing from both the Commonwealth and the defense, the court does find probable cause to justify the scheduling of a dangerousness hearing,’’ Judge Michael Uhlarik said. “Mr. McCullom will be held without bail pending that dangerousness hearing,’’

McCullom’s lawyer, William DiAdamo, objected to McCullom being held without bail pending the dangerousness hearing.

PLYMOUTH (CBS) — A man accused of firing a gun near a Plymouth plow driver in an apparent road rage incident during the height of the weekend snowstorm was released on $2,500 bail Monday after his arraignment in Plymouth District Court.

Bruce O’Brien, 60, of Whitman, pleaded not guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm under influence of liquor, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and disorderly conduct.

O’Brien told police he was driving behind the plow driver on Rocky Hill Road around 7 p.m. Saturday when he tried to pass the plow.

They said that the plow driver then swerved toward O’Brien, nearly hitting his wife in the passenger seat.

Prosecutors say O’Brien told police he feared for his life, and pulled out a handgun, firing at the ground. Several people out shoveling on the street heard the sounds, and reported gunshots to police.

A woman, who declined to identify herself, told WBZ-TV’s Jim Smith she heard the gun fire.

“I was at the window in my kitchen and I heard a loud boom,” she says. “I couldn’t believe it, and I still can’t believe it.”

Jack Diamond, O’Brien’s attorney, said the shots were fired outside the driver’s side window into the dirt and not out the passenger’s side window at the plow truck driver.

When he was later pulled over, police found shell casings in O’Brien’s car. Investigators say O’Brien cooperated, giving them a statement that night.

O’Brien was ordered to surrender all of his firearms to Whitman Police and to have no further contact with the plow driver.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 23.

McCullom sounds like a bi*** to me. He started it by following the guy to a parking lot and initiating the argument, and then when he figured he'd get his ass whipped he pulled a pistol. If you start a fight and can't win, accept your ass whooping like a man and move on.

Carrying a firearm also carries responsibility.

We had a guy get shot at 2 years ago. Blew out the window in his loader. The guy tried to kill him and missed. I had the opportunity to talk with him directly about it. He dragged a big pile of snow out from in front of a dumpster then took a 5 min break before he pushed it out of the way. Guy came out saw a pile behind his car and flipped out. All he had to do was wave at him and let him know he needed to get out.

They should consider the possibility that firing a weapon may result in return fire from larger caliber weapons.

Obviously another case of an outlaw low life using a gun.

Takes more the a title/ceo white shirt suit and a tie to be an honest upright citizen. Just look at the way the mob guy's dressed.

Never been shot at, but I will say I am prepared to shoot back if it ever happened. The glock 22 stays in the truck

Obviously what was needed in both of those situations were a good guy with a gun. More guns are definitely the solution.

    Absolutely.

Fewer guns are an even better solution.
