Getting paid

    In my opinion, the worst part of running your own business is getting paid. And while 95% of the people are honest and pay, that other 5% chews up a lot of your time and energy. Contracts can help a lot, but they have to be drafted by a local lawyer and even then below about $1000 owed, you're going to small claims court on your own.

    My rules of thumb.

    1. a customer who doesn't pay is NOT a good customer.
    2. nobody cares about the money you are owed but you.
    3. If a person owes you money and their lips are moving, they are lying.
    4. Have a tight collection schedule, do not let things go for very long, the scumbags expect you to forget it.
