The front axle seals on my 98 K3500 are leaking. The driver's side has been leaking for a while now but is now starting to leave oil on the carport. The passenger side is just seeping. Looking in my factory service manual, it looks like this is a pretty involved job with some special tools needed. Is my assumption correct on this? How hard of a job is this and what would be the average cost to have a shop fix this? Thanks for any input or suggestions.

Just went through this on mine. I got lucky and it just came right out with a few good hits of a hammer. I hear that if the clip on the end of the splined shaft is seized on you need to remove the front diff and split it apart. Its not that bad of a job if It pops right out, all I needed to do was remove the tire,cv shaft, pound out the axle, replace the seal and reassemble.

Thanks, you make it sound easy. With my luck lately, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Do you know how much a shop would charge to do this job.?
