Check this out, the state of Washington has some studded tire info that may provide some good info for all of us. There's a link on the left for a list of state regulations (all states) and concerns plus a study done in 2001 relting to the effectiveness of studded tires versus all seasons and versus the then current generations of non studded ice/snow tires (like and specifically Blizzacks).

The results are quite interesting- stating that the effectiveness of studded tires is marginally better on most cases and significantly deminished in most compaired to non studded tires. 80 page PDF file study results, but worth the read. Results for the study from several states and other countries government research.
    http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/winter/research.htm for the page and
    http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/winter/studtire/Studded_Tire_Report_Final_Nov_2002.pdf for the study directly.

Happened on this and thought it might be interesting since there has been alot of "what tire" threads recently.
