There was a blurb on the tv last night about a recall on the F series, explorer, and another one but i forgot. They said something with the cruise control is faulty and in some cases the dash bursts in to flames. They had a picture of a mid 90's F150 completely burnt.

It was just a sensor? I thought they said last night that this was a new problem?

Ya i am pretty sure it is. I dont know what years. All i know is they mentioned Ford and Lincoln. The f series and explorer. they showed what looked like a 1996 or 1997 F150 charred from the front bumper to the windshield.

It is a sensor in the dash. If it moves a little it can see the Ford name on a part in there and causes the truck to commit suicide!
LOL Just kidding guys, former Ford guy here myself. Little brother still is, so these things come natural to me.

There are two recalls out right now. One is for 97-03 ford trucks with the powerstroke 7.3 and is for the cmp sensor. The other one is for 1994-01 GAS powered vehicles. It is for the cruise control switch mounted on the master cylinder. On the gas vehicles ,the switch is wired live all the time, not on the diesel. The fix for these is they wire in an inline fuse before the switch.Looks goofy but it works.

Brake fluid gets into the switch and shorts it out.

I read it somewhere last week it looks like about everything Ford ever built with cruise. The kicker was that all they are doing is disconnecting the switch while they figure out how to fix it.. I lucked out because there were no deisels only gas 250s. Ill try to find the article on the web and post the address
