My '84 318 engine is putting out 18 volts and boiling batteries.
Alt. is 114 amps, running dual batteries gas model.

I have replaced the external voltage regulator, and batteries (all warranty).

Even talked to dodge mechanics about why I am getting 18 volts.

Every one says voltage regulator, or bad ground, I have alt. grounded to frame and battery grounded to engine. Both good grounds, but still way too hi volts.

Any suggestions where to look, or what to try.

    Thanks,

    Rick

Make sure the engine to body ground is intact.

    Update on truck,

I had to replace the plug for the external voltage regulator it was faulty, now voltage down to 15 volts.
