I need to replace the coolant temp sending unit that gives the dash gauge its info. This is on my 98 with the 5.7L. This sending unit has about a 13" wire attached that ends in a plug in. Is there a special socket that takes these out, kind of like an O2 sensor socket.?

I'm worried about damaging the wire on the new sender when I go to replace it. I tried using a wrench to take out the old one but its starting to round the edges because its in pretty tight.

None of my autoparts stores have a socket that will work. Thanks for any info.

No special socket for it Wayne. Simply cut the wire pigtail off right near the sender and use a 6 point socket to remove the sender.

Install the new one with a wrench.
