At what temperature do you recommend the installation and use of a heater on a hydraulic reservoir?
I run a single axle dump w/central hydraulics. When it gets below 20 degreesF the pump seems to work extra hard until the oil heats up. Truck is parked outdoors. Just wondering if a heater would prolong pump life and prevent other problems.

    Thanks.

Just put a magnetic block heater onto your reservoir and plug it in on cold nights. For around $30 it'll keep your fluid nice and warm.

Not sure, haven't hit that temp yet.

Using AW32 and the only times we really have problems is below zero.

Otherwise, yes, it makes noise when it's cold.

Mark, do you run AW32 in winter only or all year?

I've been kicking around the idea of 32 for winter, but feel much better about running the 46 the rest of the year.

I've just been too lazy to try it.

Is there a special Marine Grade fluid you use in your skid steer?

Here in Miami we have to switch over to AW64.

We don't use our hydros much in the summer so we stick with 32 all year.

You guys are just freakin' hilarious.

    A-holes. :waving:

Thanks Mark, just because you said so, I'm going to have to try it this winter. If it foams, leaks or fails in any way though, I'm gonna be coming after you!

I may even look into trying to switch "most" of the fluid in the skid loader over for winter.

And no, there's no joke to go with that...........

    At least not this time!
