I have a BOSS spreader that the motor that lifts the thing onto my bumper has taken a crap :realmad: My dealer told me that BOSS dosen't sell the motor alone, you have to but the actuator that the motor is attached to as well. Has anyone else had this problem, this is the second time this has happened, the first was when the salter was 3 months old, they just replaced the entire salter that time, but now they want $ 600.00 bucks for the part  it's 2 months past the factory 2 yr. warranty.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Oh, one other thing, my dealer said the part is back ordered for 3 weeks from BOSS, I need help !!

    I'm in the same boat.

I bought the spreader Oct 28th two years ago, went to mount it this year and the motor is crap. Didn't try to mount it till mid November so it was two weeks outa warranty.

Local dealer says new part is $670 - I choked, it's a freaking $75 electric motor with a special end on it. Talked with the dealer I bought it from, they do sell just the motor, part number is 5898 fopr $350, the whole deal part number is 5897 for $670.

They are going to try and get Boss to warranty the part, you can only hope.

Thanks for the great info, my dealer could'nt even find the motor number by itself :dizzy: I can't figure this damm thing out, worked perfect last year, up/down no problem, how can it crap out sitting inside, I'm totally stumped, that's why I think there should be a BOSS representative on this site regularly.

Mine worked just fine last year, came off the truck no problem. Cleaned everything up, sprayed some wd40 on the metal areas and put it in the corner of the garage - 7 monthes later that motor is junk. I took mine apart - you should see how bad it is.

Mine took a sh!t while it was on my truck last year. I had to unbolt the hitch to get the thing off. Luckly it was under warranty. This year the hopper cracked where the vibrator is mounted. Im going to sell my boss and get a Salt Dogg. My boss works good, but I use bulk and enough of it, I want to be able to load with my Bobcat. Anyone intrested in a like new spreader?

My dealer just called me at said BOSS will not cover it under warranty, it's is truely 18 days past the the two year warranty....BOSS can kiss my A*S, I could see if it was the motor that spun the wheel throwing salt. I put the thing on in the begenning of winter and away I go, it's not like it's going up and down once a day.

As soon as a new motor is on, you'll see the thing for sale right after, I'm done with BOSS :gunsfiring::cry:

And of coarse there are NO BOSS representatives on this site, you can only work through your dealer....

Well, I know it's been a while and I thought I should move this thread back up and tell everyone that my dealer did in deed warrent the part. He gave me some BS story and it cost me 2 dozen PRO-V's but I got a new actuator and motor, no cash outta hand other than the G-Balls :D
Put the parts on and I'm back in business..

Good to hear they stood behind their product. I wonder what's up with the actuators going out? :dizzy:

yamaguy, good one....you must not be a golfer, I forked over 2 dozen Pro-V Golf Balls to the guy that owns the BOSS dealership for taking care of this for me.

My cousin had a boss a couple of years ago and ran into the same problem. The spinner motor and lift motor appeared to be the same if memory serves me correctly. Also we looked at the motor and found the actual manafacturer of the motor and contacted them directly. I believe that he paid about 75 bucks shipped for a new one. I would look closely at the motor and google the mfg. I will be worth your time!

There are two motors on it, one to raise and lower it ( on your truck ) and one for the actuator, they are both the same kind. What happen to mine was the motor that raise's it and lowers it on the truck took a crap.

Dealer got me a new one and I'm off to the races.

When the thing is working, it works great. If the motor that attaches it to your truck takes a sh*t as mine did you can always manually put it one and off, you just need a floor jack.
