Been pushing snow for 13 yrs and have always used trucks equipped with automatic trans. Guys that have done this and then switched to standard trans., which do you prefer? Going to buy a new truck and I'm considering standard. What say you!

Auto for plowing. It can be done in Manual, but your clutch will hate you.

This question has been asked a few times before.

I run a stick for plowing, prefer a stick over a auto and have no problems with my clutch.

Dodge is the only PU you can still get a stick in.

I see, so a 80,000 lb. big rig is a toy?

auto, for people who cant figure out how to work 3 peddles with 2 feet.

I wonder how they eat? 2 hands , one mouth... 2 forks, 2 spoons 2 knives. cant be done I tell you. I suppose they eat out of a bowl like a dog (lap...lap)

those that cant .... drive an automatic.

Ummm lets see o ya auto's save plows!
no ,wait. Its full trip plows save auto's

    Its simple
If you drive an auto you will hate a standard
if you drive a standard you will hate the auto.

I have used both. If I could have ordered my new 550 with a standard I would have.

If you were plowing municipal or similar where you are just going down a road, the stick wouldnt be too bad. Commercial Lots they suck. Done both, prefer the auto

If plow trucks were my hobby, I would have a 1969 F250 with a granny low 4 speed and a year appropriate Fisher with the wingnut control knobs on the left side dash beside the light switch. But it ain't.

I think it might be faster shifting, because while you are still rolling you can pop it in 1st. If you mount the controller on the shifter that would be handy.

    Get a strong left leg!!

It is all personal preference, kinda like boxer or briefs. So go with what is comfortable for you. Thumbs Up

 This just means you are man willing to take risks. You don't fear any zippers or the carnage they could cause to your tally whacker. Thumbs Up So I would suggest a un-synchronized manual with a twin stick transfer case.
