I recently bought a new Ariens 522 to replace my worn and aging Toro 2450. Wanted another Toro, but all sold out within 100 miles. The Ariens while running good it leaves 1/4" of snow on pavement and doesn't seem to propel itself like the 10 year old Toro will. Anything I can do to fix this short of trading it in for something else.

Yes you should be able to adjust the cutting edge in a little and that should lower your paddles to brush the pavement and pull you along. I bought a Ariens a month ago and had to adjust it so it did a better job. The people who assemble these just put it together and don't worry about adjusting it.
