87-91 TBI and dual tanks

Got a question about dual tanks on the 87-91 R/V trucks (square body) with TBI. The 81-86 carb trucks use a selector valve with five wires that switches the fuel level sender at the valve (as opposed to at the switch as was done on the 70s vintage trucks). How is the in-tank electric fuel pump switched on the TBI trucks? Is the selector valve different (ie, eight wires) or is there a separate relay that selects the pump? Or do both pumps just run all the time (which I doubt since an empty tank would cause the pump to burn up). Thanks for any help.
