I hate the controller on the 810PP. I am looking at making my own. I already have a design pretty much completed.

I am curious if anyone knows the single maximum current draw on the solenoids in the plow. Trying this first before I look up the specs on each solenoid on the plow. I know the connector for the controller is rated at 5 amps and assuming common engineering practice I would assume that the maximum draw is no more then 2.5 amps, but I want to make sure.

A longshot I know, but if someone knows that would be great!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Chris

Call Jerre's Service in Erie, PA. He makes custom controllers for Blizzards all the time.

Good idea, but I would not want to bother the good man. Hopefully he will chime in here.

    Thanks,

LOL, 2.5 amp at normal draw, 3.5 amp at max draw unless you have a silver manifold plow then at float the draw is 5 amp normal in float ( 2 coils at 2.5 amp ). Hope this helps. Send picts or post them.

    Jerre,

Thanks a ton. I had 3 amp rated contact relays and was thinking about them. Now the 3.5amp max worries me. I might use these with some fuseable links to test the prototype and order up some 5amp rated relays.

Thanks a ton again. I will post pics when I am done. :)

Would it be possible to use a Western or Boss V handheld controller?

As long as it has enough buttons it should. I am sure that the contacts have the same or close enough ratings. Only thing you would need to do is ohm out the other controller and match up the correct cable to each cable to the Blizzard plow. You can get the connector for the joystick control online. Or (god forbid) cut the cable in the truck and splice into it.

Just think of each movement as needing a switch. As long as the switch is rated to carry the current it will work.
