It's do-able but takes a torsion bar change to carry the weight correctly. Timbrens and ballast alone aren't enough.

I have plowed with my 8'2" V-blade with Boss wings on our 1/2 ton and it handles the blade better than any of our 3/4 tons

What!? yeah more like luck, lucky you didnt snap the torsion bars in half after the first bump you hit or rub a nice hole in the inner fender wells from the tires hitting.

the ford keys give you a little more adjustment, I was skeptical but read it on Chevy forums and confirmed it with friend who's a ford mechanic, they are keys the same and have steeper angle to have more adjustments that gm ones!!!

I will post some info or send it to ya if interested !!!

A few hundred extra pounds of difference is a bunch, so you have to compensate for it.

The keys from a 2500/3500 GM don't work because they're indexing is too far different from the stock 1/2 ton keys...you physically can't load the bar enough to install them.

The Ford green keys are the low buck approach to the aftermarket overpriced "miracle fix all" keys that all the non knowledgeable types pay several hundred dollars for when you can run the Ford green keys (to gain T-bar adjustment) for less than $70 a pair from the local Ford dealer. They have the correct indexing for the 1/2 ton GM's and will provide more bar adjustment. But, as with any key it doesn't add capacity, just more range of adjustment. To add capacity you still need a T-bar upgrade.
