I know that it is possible to put a 760hd on my 1500 as that is what the dealer suggested for my truck. My question is why can't I use the plow that is on my dad's 01 F250 superduty and just buy a new truck side mount?

The plow is either a 01 or 02 760. The plow serial # is 760-0175. The dealer said that the A-frame on the 760 are different between 1/2 and 3/4+ ton vehicles. Does this make sense? Why would blizzard use different a-frames for the same plow?

The 760LT and 760HD used different a-frames that used different truck push beams. Your dealer is most likely correct that there is not a truck mount available for your 1500 ... is it a chev or dodge? ... that fits an HD a-frame. If it is a chev ... I have seen the HD B30042-1 mount modified to fit a half-ton so it can be done. I don't think you'll be too far outside the trucks limits so some timbrens, turns on the torsion bars, and ballast should be enough to make it function well.

all you need to do is get the mount and fab it to fit the plow the ears where the pin goes will need to be wider

Are you referring to modifying the light duty mount that fits on my truck or the hd mount that bliz&hinikerDLR refereed to in his post?

Not the same plow...there was a 760 and a 760 HD, of which your F250 will have the latter.
