i just picked up a new 2500hd crewcab with a 6ft bed. it does not have a plow package but does have dual batterys. does anyone think i will have any problems using the truck with an 8ft western untra mount?
from what i see the only thing the plow package add's is a 140 amp alt and my stock one is 105. i also have a 97 3500 with a plow package and that thing only came with a 100 amp alt, and that is what was included in the plow package.

Does your truck have the diesel in it? If it does then thats why it doesn't have the plow prep, too much weight on the front axle. GM won't put the plow prep on a CC pickup with the diesel, but any other config is ok. Hope this helps.

no its not a desiel its a 6.0 gas.
i ordered the truck and when i wanted to add the plow package i was told it would automatically remove a whole bunch of other options like rear DVD player, rear window defog, 6 disc changer, etc..... i wanted to get the 140 amp alt but after the dealer placed the order they called me back and said they stopped doing that option for the rest of the year.
ik called my local western dealer and they told me ill be fine, i just wanted to double check.

Just add some Timbrens and adjust the torsion bars and you'll be good to go with that plow.

GUYS......GM does NOT offer the VYU plow prep. option on
ANY full size crew cab truck, certian diesel models or 1/2
ton ex-cab pickups plain and simple.........................

The VYU plow prep. is a option by itself !!!!!!!!!
If your truck has it. It will be listed on the RPO code sheet
    in the glovebox.

    QUAD....Your dealer is clueless !

Be warned that some dealers are picky about warranty repairs
    for snowplowing related breakage

    Been there and done that.................geo

i dont know about the letter codes your using but i know for sure that you can get a plow prep package on crew and ext cab models. go to gm's web site and search local dealers for the 2500hd crew. i saw many of them with the plow prep but just didnt have the other options i wanted.

you really didnt offer any opinion on my original question. i really dont care what letter code is what or what truck supposidly can have the plow package, i'm intrested in what i have and putting a plow on it.

  8. George, are you sure??

My '04 2500HD Crew Cab has VYU snow plow prep.

You will be fine, my cousin has a 2500HD Crewcab with the 6.0 and he runs a 8 footer on it. Just add timbrens and maybe crank the T-Bars

QUAD............get ya a big 9 foot V-plow and slap on your truck
WITHOUT the VYU plow prep. option !

Then plow to your hearts content! But be warned MOST dealers
will NOT warranty any snowplowing related breakage if truck is
NOT equipped with the VYU option....................

just curious, having the plow prep package really doesnt add any extra hd chassis components right? the torsion bars and rear leafs are all the same right? from looking at the options list from gm the plow prep package pretty much only upgrades the alt, adds the hd trans cooler(which my tow package also does) and adds some extra light hareness's for a roof light and such.

QUAD...........Exactly what kind of plowing are you going to be
doing? Parking lots, driveways, a combo of both or just your own
home and maybe a few family/neighbors?
IMO: There is some good money to be made in NJ when it snows!

Couldnt you replace the front torsion bars with heavier ones from the plow package? I think mine are 4800lb.

05.............If you have the VYU plow prep. option I believe you
already have the biggest bars already......................

There is a post around here somewhere listing the GM t-bars
weights, loads and applications. Then you just go by the RPO
code in your glove box to see which you have...............
