i found a truck, going to look at it, really good shape 97 gmc 2500hd 4x4 it has 50,000 miles on the 350 vortec and the truck has 150,00 on the body... was wondering as i cant find the mpg, how bad it is? for a first truck, i would be getting it for a steal.. said hed also throw in a fisher 8' mini mount electir plow for 500 extra? what do you think>?

MPG will be 10 if your lucky, maybe more on a good day. Get the plow too. I have the ad pulled up on Craigslist right now, it looks fairly clean. My personal advice is look at the frame at the very front where the mounts bolt on, thats where mine rotted out.

Does the mileage really matter if you're "getting it for a steal" as you say? These kinds of questions just slay me.

And if your buying a vehicle for fuel mileage, get a small car. Don't get a 3/4 ton truck.

You see the ad? It does look clean. It's worth looking at I think

Searched 1997 gmc on craigslist. I'm a craigslist hound, probably saw the truck before and never noticed it. Just think, 10 mpg maybe better with this and a new diesel truck will get 12-15 generally. IMO these GMT400 trucks are nicer than the new ones, more comfortable and theres actually feel in the steering and brakes.

So you say talk a look at it just watch for rust around the plow mounts? And check out the plow too?

Wanna trade? I bet I'm averaging 7mpg since December. Some tanks as low as 5, If I see 10 I'm doing awesome.

Yes watch the boxing where the front mounting point is on the plow mount. Mine completely rotted away there. I saw another ad, plow is rough. Don't see any rot in the pics but it could definitely use paint.,

    Ten's of horsepowers right there.

How do you go from buying a brand new truck, brand new plow, brand new whatever else to a mid 90's 6.5 powered 1/2ton? That's like not even on the same spectrum

I'm going to start with used as many people had advised then buy new in a few years. Is there a problem with that.

I have a 98 extended cab long bed with a 7.5ft plow with wings and I generally have 1300lbs of salt in the bed and I get 13mpg.
