1991 Ford Explorer Tranny Prob.

    I got a 1991 Ford Explorer Not used for plowing.

    When in drive i get to about 15 20 mph, then the engine just revves up from there, like there is no tranny, but if i shift down to 2nd gear i can get up to 35-40mph but thats it!!! whats happening to my truck..need a new tranny? I think

    Needs a rebuild, I've had 3 through the shop in the past month with the same symptoms you describe.

    Get it in before it fries too many parts.I bet they still used the French light duty transmission (A4LD) they used in the Bronco II <--- a lot of the parts were the same the first few years. If you don't have a big towing transmission cooler now, have them install one when it gets rebuilt.
