Question regarding gm 1500s newer era one say 99 to 05 is there a smaller body style 4x4 1500 and a larger one. not really body size but chassis height. I could of sworn on many ocassions i have seen larger style 1500 4x4s, does the se or sle make a difference. Or maybe its just some of these 1500s are utilizing a leveling kit, or maybe im just loosing my marbles. Any help much appreciated. Oh and also will a tonneau cover of a 1990 gmc 1500 2wd fit a early 2000s gmc 1500 4x4 Im thinking of picking one up l8er this year for a daily driver and still have the cover off my old 1500. Thanks guys

I believe there were hd's in those years maybe that's what you seen, as far as the cover it is a bit short by the tailgate, width wise it will cover

The Z71 will sit higher than the regular 4x4's and I think 03 and later they may have started using 17" wheels instead of the 16". And people crank the t-bars, etc as well. The 2500HD's will sit much higher than the 1500's and the 2500 will as well. As for the tonneau cover from 88-98 will only fit that style, it will not work on the 99-06 style trucks. They made the earlier style till 2000, but there will be a noticeable difference between the 2

Anybody know if a leveling kit and a set of larger tires would get a 1500 to sit at the ride height of a 2500? I want a lift kit or leveling kit for a 1500 at some point but i dont want it taller then a 2500. Also does anyone know if they sold 2500 z71 trucks in the years 01 to 06?

The 1500HD four door used the old 8600lb 2500 frame. Not sure when they started or stopped but that is what you might be seeing.
There is a 1500 Z71 running 265 tires at my shop that sits just as high if not higher then my older 2500's.

In 06 they introduced the "superdome" hood on the 1500's which is about 3" taller then the origional hood... Making them look even bigger and stronger
